TAG Heuer

TAG Heuer was established in 1860 by Edouard Heuer, a young 20-year-old who produced pocket watches in silver. From its inception, TAG relied heavily on two foundations- family leadership and technical innovation. Before 1900, Heuer had received patents on his crown-winding system and on the “oscillating pinion” a component that allowed a chronograph to start and stop instantly in response to the action of a pusher.

At the turn of the 20th century, the world was demanding more precise timing to accompany the advances in production, transportation, science, and medicine. It also became a necessity for athletics as competitors and world records might be separated by mere hundredths of a second.

By the late 1950s, Jack Heuer became the fourth generation to manage the family company. By that time, Heuer had a vast collection of stopwatches and pocket chronographs, but a limited selection of wrist chronographs. The “Autavia” becomes TAG Heuer’s first chronograph with a collection name in 1962. Its unique design was first installed in airplane cockpits and car dashboards.

In 1963, a mere year later, Heuer introduced the Heuer Carrera, a chronograph collection that captured the intrigue and danger of racing. This iconic sports watch was designed for professional drivers and sports-car enthusiasts. The standard-bearer of TAG Heuer elegance and sporting spirit.

In 1969, TAG Heuer was the first to offer automatic chronographs in worldwide markets with the Calibre 11 movement. Worn by Steve McQueen in “Le Mans”, it was the Monaco watch with the Calibre 11 movement that captured the world’s attention. The Monaco watches are instantly recognizable with their square case.

In 1986, TAG Heuer created the Formula 1 collection. Built for speed, the Formula 1, is a casual sports watch worn by Formula 1 legends. It has a metal bracelet with a driver extension to fit over the sleeve of a racing suit. It’s youthful, sporty, and easy to read in all conditions.

Also part of the TAG Heuer brand are the Aquaracer and Link collections. The Aquaracer has an easily recognizable 12-facet, unidirectional bezel. The screw-in crown has double safety gaskets to prevent water penetration. The contemporary Link collection is an expression of avant-garde aesthetics. Because of the integrated “S-shaped” bracelet, this timepiece floats weightlessly on the wrist.
