Omega's "First Omegas In Space" Collection

OMEGA's newly released "First Omega in Space" collection is an homage to the pioneering spirit of astronaut Walter "Wally" Schirra, an astronaut aboard the Mercury-Atlas 8 mission of 1962. Schirra became the first person to wear an Omega Speedmaster in space. He personally owned and wore the CK 2998 model, a pre-Moonwatch reference that predated the Speedmaster Professional's official association with NASA. This mission and Wally's choice in wearing OMEGA marked the beginning of OMEGA's enduring relationship with space exploration. This partnership with NASA led to the Speedmaster's eventual qualification for all manned missions and its iconic "Moonwatch" collection.

The re-issued 2024 "First Omega in Space" collection timepiece - available on a stainless steel bracelet, brown leather or black leather strap - is a direct tribute to the original CK 2998 worn by Schirra. It features a 39.7mm stainless steel case, a black tachymeter bezel and a domed crystal. The dial is coated in a gray-blue hue to emulate the vintage appearance of its predecessor, and complemented with a yellow-tinted Super-LumiNova as an added nod to the "vintage" look. Powered by OMEGA's modern Calibre 3861 movement, the Omega Speedmaster FOIS has historic charm and modern, contemporary accuracy and performance. The case back is emblazoned with the date of Schirra's Mercury liftoff and the Omega logo.

The leather strap version of the "First Omega in Space" watch is $7500, and the model featuring the stainless steel bracelet is $7900.
